Spirit of Mammon

One of the greatest enemy’s we have to overcome as a follower of Jesus Christ is Mammon. Mammon is a spirit and it is a ruling Principality in the earth. It has a voice and speaks very loud. Its desire is to rule in the hearts of men and it is most powerful. The Father gave us instructions and strategy on how to deal with and defeat it, so it wouldn’t rule us. The word mammon is a word meaning riches, wealth, or anything you put your confidence or trust in. It’s the word we use for money. It came from Babylon; it was the Syrian god of riches. The word Babylon speaks of confusion, and it was a place where the Lord confused the language of the people because they built their own system to get to heaven. This system was built on pride, arrogance, greed, self-confidence and independence without the Lord God. Sounds like Mammon to me. The Lord spoke about stewardship, finances and possession in sixteen of His parables. One must note it was an important topic to Him. It will cause the atmosphere to shift even when mentioned in a church service! Why? Because mammon is fighting for positon in the hearts of God’s people. It knows that they cannot serve it and the Lord at the same time! It knows it has the power to destroy the soul. If you get uncomfortable or agitated when money is discussed, it could very well be you need cleansed from this death structure. Its iniquity hides in our bloodline to keep us in generational poverty and lack as well.

In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus talks of mammon. Starting in verse 19, “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.22 “Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. 23 But when your eye is bad, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!24 “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Mammon.

One must really desire to come out of Mammon’s control and system, but first one must realize how he works in us to be free. Here are a few questions to consider. Are you an impulse buyer? Do you have anxiety and fear connected to money? Do you feel you’re unable to give? Are you afraid to tithe or give offerings? Are you discontent and full of ingratitude? Do you always want more and feel you never have enough? Are you greedy? Do you have a poverty mindset, thinking you can't afford anything? Do you have excessive debt you cannot pay, cycles of lack? Do you believe money has power and will bring you security or success? You may even hear these comments in your mind, which can be Mammon speaking to you. You may be dealing with a Spirit of Mammon. It is idolatrous structure that steals are worship and can deceive us in putting our trust in His lying promises that it cannot deliver! The Lord He is God and He is our provider, our peace, security and safety, not Mammon.

The spirit of Mammon is in the system of our government, keeping our children serving it, as we stay in its poverty mentality and live on its system. It Keeps people on a certain level of income and dependent on it. It is never enough but deceives them that they can’t survive without it. It comes with a slavery mentality, answering to a Pharaoh. It is a blinding deceiving spirit, attached to a false peace. As the Lord brought the children of Israel out of bondage, they always looked back to pharaohs’ provision of leeks, onions and garlics. They forgot about the price they paid of harsh beating and forced labor to his kingdom for those simple staples. In Duet 8:1 it says, “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” As long as one is in that system one will never tap into the power that is within them to prosper, or establish the Lords kingdom in the earth. This is our real purpose for being sent to this earth. This power He has put in us could be an idea, ability, a talent, gift or trade that will bring wealth for us to establish His covenant here and now. It is also of course health and His very Spirit working through all of us. We were never meant to be lazy or idle but productive and prosperous.

In Luke 16, Jesus commended the thinking of an unrighteous steward on how he handled money. He says we should be wiser as sons of light than him. In the church many have forgotten that our wealth has an assignment. We have lost sight of establishing His kingdom. We have thought this parable of true riches was about gathering stuff! The Fathers thought of true riches is not gold and silver. It is about souls, it is about humanity. Our money should free souls from Satan’s grip. We should be using it as a resource to further the Kingdom here on earth. In this parable Jesus teaches us to redeem the unrighteous mammon by bringing soul’s in. the shrew manager here did good deeds by lightening the load, the debts of his tenants. Jesus lightened our debt by taking it upon himself! As you are wise in love and generosity as a God’s sons, when you die the nations will welcome you into heaven. Your good deed of charity will be recorded. Your giving is a supernatural. It is the way of Christ. It is His model we are to follow. Jesus said you brought nothing into the world; surely you will take nothing out. But believers are selfish, thinking that they own their stuff. When in reality, this attitude proves it really owns them! Read the parable of the talents that should stir one up to be busy about wise stewardship! (Matthew 25).

If one thinks giving is not supernatural ask Abraham, who paid the tenth of his best spoil to the priest Melchizedek, (Hebrews 7 and Gen. 14). Who the bible says has no record of father or mother, who remains a priest forever. The writer also said Levi paid his tithe while in his Fathers loins. I believe our giving goes into heavens treasury record book not an earthly building. The earthly buildings and ministries should be resources the Lord uses to establish His kingdom purpose as we give. So, supernatural blessings flow to my seed that is yet unborn when I’m obedient not to rob God of what he requires. Let us ask Cornelius in Acts 10, who had an angel sent to him with a message of hope because the Lord said his prayers were heard because of his offerings. They went up as a memorial unto the throne of God! I wonder what thoughts were in the rich young ruler as he walked away from the invitation to be Christ’s disciple because he could not part with stuff? (Matthew 19). It wasn’t the fact that he was wealthy, the problem was that wealth had his affection; it was his idol before the Lord. Jesus says as you give even a cup of water unto the least of my brethren, you have given it to me. It’s never about the amount in our giving, it is about the obedience. It will break off the spirit of Mammon in our life, taking its power to control our hearts. Become generous and see the blessings that will flow! Give your best and give Mammon a black eye! If you are faithful the Lord will give you more.

How do I break the power of lack and poverty? How do I get out of Mammon’s grip? Jesus said give and it will be given to you! First you need to become a tithe payer and sow offerings. The tithe will indeed break the power of the spirit of Mammon off your money and replace it with blessing. You need to repent for allowing it to rule your heart. Come out of agreement with it and walk in obedience.

Prayer- Father, I repent and come out of agreement with the Spirit of Mammon. I Go all the way back to Adam and ask for forgivness for myself and all my generations. Forgive me for the iniquity in my bloodline of and connected to pride and idolatry, robbery, fraud, any theft, greed, covetousness, swindling, cheating, unjust weights and measure, poverty and lack. Forgive me for unbelief and fear of not trusting you as my provider. I ask that you cleanse me and purge me today. I choose today to place Jesus on the throne of my heart concerning my money, possessions and all that you have made me a steward of. I will be obedient with tithe and offerings as you speak to me and I will give and give generously and cheerfully to establish you kingdom in the earth! In Jesus name I pray.
